Ashburton Club Hub

 

As a service to our community, the Ashburton PTA is fortunate to have parents in a volunteer capacity that can serve as School Clubs & Enrichment Programs Leads who help coordinate and provide general information about before and after school enrichment activities available to Ashburton Elementary School students. Program dates, general session information, fees, contacts, and registration links will be posted here. Detailed and up-to-date club information following registration will be provided by the individual program providers. Please contact the vendors directly for any specific queries including activity and instructor specifics. We encourage you to contact activity providers to learn about their organization, rules, policies, and safety measures before enrolling your student(s).

 

Registration Disclaimers: Before and after school activities from outside vendors, companies or individuals are not sponsored nor endorsed by Ashburton Elementary School, the Ashburton Elementary School PTA, the Board of Education of Montgomery County, or the Superintendent. Activity providers are responsible for students during the time of the scheduled activity and are required to manage arrival and dismissal of their activity. Ashburton Elementary School and the Ashburton Elementary School PTA are not liable for any injuries that occur during extracurricular activities. Please note that the clubs are operated by private vendors and all concerns related to the club should be shared with the vendor. These clubs provide many opportunities for student enrichment and some extra time at school. We want these to be safe, fun experiences for children. Safety includes getting the child to the club and making sure they do not get on the bus with no one there to meet them.

 

Notify Your Student's Homeroom Teacher: If your student is registered for a club, you must notify the homeroom teacher of the dates of attendance. The teacher and dismissal announcements will help remind students at dismissal but staff cannot walk students to their club classroom.  Please make sure your student knows their weekly club day(s) and discuss what room the club will be in and where you will meet them at the end of the activity. 

 

Student Pickup Procedures for Families: MCPS does not provide an activity bus for these clubs. Please be prompt in picking up your student. Dismissal times vary based on club/activity. Please check registration details and email confirmations from the individual program provider to verify the dismissal time of your student's activity. The activity providers are not daycare providers. Parents or designated caregivers must pick up their students outside by the gym entrance doors - Door 24. Caretakers are responsible for on-time pickup and some providers may charge fees for repeated tardiness.

Create amazing structures using your imagination with the help of challenge ideas and experiments. Children will have the opportunity to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills through building and designing with LEGO bricks. Throughout the class, they will learn various techniques for building structures, vehicles and other objects. We will have many fun challenges to enhance the building experience and encourage a healthy competition - Volcano, Windmill, Dominoes, Formula One, Treasure Towers, Robots, Dragons, Minions... just to name a few! Children will have the opportunity to work individually or in teams and will be encouraged to share their ideas and collaborate with their peers. In addition to building, we will also discuss some of the engineering and physics concepts behind the designs we create. Ready...Set...Build!

At Young Rembrandts, we’re getting excited for this spring’s creative adventures, and we hope your young artist will join us! This season, we’ve got an amazing lineup of artistic projects ready to ignite their imagination. Got a little jokester with a knack for drawing? Then our Young Rembrandts Cartoon class is perfect for them! They’ll get to bring inanimate objects to life, turning the Sun and Moon into hilarious cartoon characters. MSA offers outdoor soccer clinics in the fall and spring seasons. Our Clinic Focus – on teaching fundamentals of soccer in fun method. For boys and girls ages 5 – 12 years old. Children are grouped by grades k - 2nd  and 3rd - 5th. These programs are offered as an after school activity and on the weekend. Optional Saturday games are available for the children to practice their newly acquired skills. The program runs in Montgomery County public schools and parks.

 

Each participant will need to have shin guards and soccer cleats.

Would you like to lead the cheers on the sidelines for your favorite team? Join our Cheerleading class! We teach students the basics of cheerleading, including motions, cheers, jumps, basic tumbling and simple stunting. During stunting, simple pyramids of only two levels will be taught. Parents are invited to join us on the last day of class for a Parent’s Day performance.

MSA offers a fantastic program coached by our professional staff which teaches the basic skills of football, running, passing, receiving and defending. Through fun skill based drills, children will learn the concepts of the game of football. Children will build the basic foundation of football to advance them to a higher level of play, and will have a great time obtaining these skills in our fun program. MSA is offering a Cheer Champs (Dance and POMs) program that teaches new techniques for beginners. Serena of the Baltimore Ravens will coach the Cheer Champs Squad. Your child will learn basic dance routines, and POMS during this class. This program is perfect for beginners who want to learn basic dance routines. Participants will perform their routines on the last of their clinics. Parents, guardians and family are welcome to attend.

In this class, children will embark on exciting yoga journeys that engage their bodies, minds, and imaginations. Led by our experienced and enthusiastic yoga instructor, Ethan, this class offers a playful and nurturing environment for children to explore the wonderful world of yoga. Through interactive storytelling, creative movement, and age-appropriate yoga poses, children will develop strength, flexibility, and mindfulness while having a blast. Each class will take the children on a new adventure, where they will encounter animals, explore nature, visit magical places, and even go on imaginary adventures to outer space! Through these imaginative journeys, children will learn yoga poses that mimic the movements of animals, plants, and objects, helping them develop body awareness and coordination. In addition to physical movement, the class will incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises tailored to children's needs. Children will learn simple breathing techniques and relaxation exercises that promote calmness, focus, and emotional well-being. These practices will help children develop self-regulation skills, enhance their ability to manage stress, and improve their overall emotional resilience. Little Yogi Adventures is not only a physical activity but also a wonderful opportunity for children to express their creativity and imagination. Hip Hop is a high-energy dance form that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B, and pop music, and is perfect for boys and girls who love to move! This fun-filled class immerses students in all aspects of motion, developing their balance, coordination, and strength, as well as promoting creativity, teamwork, and self-esteem. We use child-friendly music in all our Hip Hop classes (often KidzBop), and all movement is age-appropriate. As always, this session's class will feature new music and choreography. Ignite your child’s digital creativity! Make screen time interactive, educational, and inspiring this fall! MSA STEM Class teaches children to create interactive games and animations, starting with basic coding languages like Scratch Jr. The Class consists of classroom training with hands-on experience. Children will work in group setting to create their projects. We staff our class at a less than 8:1 student-to-coach ratio.

The MSA Youth Pickleball Program is designed for players of all ages who would love to learn and exercise the sport of Pickleball. To be a part of the MSA Pickleball Program, previous pickleball success is NOT required. What is required is a desire to become a truly accomplished pickleball player by learning the skills and techniques to obtain an in-depth understanding of pickleball and love for the game. The experience extends well beyond the tennis courts. Away from the rigors of practice and competition, young pickleball players become involved in the participation of healthy habits and the building of lasting friendships among other players.

 

NOTE: Students should bring their own pickleball paddles.

Registration for spring chess club at Ashburton Elementary is now open! Sign up to continue the progression in chess while working on new strategies and concepts. We’re holding a shorter 6 week session to finish out the year! 

 

Learn chess with Silver Knights Chess Academy (formerly Magnus Academy)! We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments outside of club time, which may have an additional fee. All chess supplies provided. We welcome all grades and skill levels!

 

Free Online Extras: ChessKid Gold membership (normally $49/year), Weekly evening practice tournament, Bonus event with a BIG guest once per season - last year's guests were Magnus (the world champion) and Judit Polgar (the best female chess player of all time)!

 

Clubs are a mixture of lessons, activities, and games. All skill levels are welcome.

Beginner Ballet is designed for younger ballet students of both genders. The curriculum includes basic ballet posture, basic positions of the feet and arms and basic ballet steps that are appropriate for young children. Group movement such
as forming circles, lines, and moving in unison will be taught. Students will also learn a ballet piece to be performed on the last day of class. Classical music as well as children’s songs are used as accompaniment during the class. Traditional leather or canvas soft ballet slippers are highly recommended (pink or white). Parents are invited to join us on the last day of class for a Parent’s Day performance.

The Robotics STEM Class is designed for ages 5 - 13 years old. There are Two sessions in the Winter. Each session has weekly classes after school during Winter 2024/2025. Participants will build robots using Legos kits and program the robots with computer software. Participants are placed in small groups based on their age & skills. Participants will use MSA laptops in the classes. We staff our clinic at a less than 10:1 students-to-coach ratio.

Hums, Buzzers, and Whirligigs! Shake, rattle and go on an exploration of how air movements can create both sound and flight! Toot tunes on test tubes and buzz on kazoos to explore how sounds are made, how they travel, and how we hear them. Create rhythms and waves in different ways to explore the concept of vibration. Build and experiment with different fliers that soar through the air and compare them to parachutes that create drag. Which design will fly the best?

Air-O-Dynamics: Crash, boom, bang! What was that noise? Produce sound effects with a thunder clapper. Investigate how sound travels and how your ear receives it. Construct a model of your vocal chords that vibrate and make noise similar to your own. Watch out for that plane! How do things stay up in the air? Continue learning about air by constructing, flying, and testing helicopters, parachutes and planes.

Good Vibrations! Strum, buzz, and pop! How does sound travel? How do your ears hear? Investigate the complex system of the auditory system and how we make sounds in this fun hands-on adventure! Build a guitar from scratch and simulate sound waves while exploring pitch, tones, and frequencies. How do airplanes and boomerangs fly? Discover the science behind flight and then get your chance to launch a model rocket!
